Plant City, Fla.-based Canco General Contractors has opened an office in Greenville, South Carolina, that will serve the Carolinas, Georgia, Alabama and Tennessee. The office at 1200 Woodruff Road is the first Canco office outside the state of Florida. Todd Roush, who has been involved in the construction industry for 20 years, has been named Division Manager. His responsibilities will include developing new business through project management in the firm’s new five-state region. Roush comes from Varco Pruden Buildings where he served as a district manager. Varco Pruden, a division of BlueScope Buildings North America, Inc., is one of the nation’s largest providers of metal building systems. “With the increased demand for environmentally friendly buildings in a challenging economic climate, the desire for pre-engineered metal buildings has grown,” Roush said. “With Canco’s outstanding reputation and vast experience and expertise in the industry, the feeling was that this is the perfect time to expand and that this was the ideal region.” Since company’s formation in 1986 with the purchase of the Tampa office of the Midwest-based Carl A. Nelson and Company (logo name CANCO), Canco General Contractors, Inc., has completed nearly nine million square feet of building projects with just over 8.5 million square feet being Varco Pruden (VP) steel building projects. The company does all types of non-residential building projects utilizing all types of framing and finish systems with most work done on a design-build basis with Guaranteed Maximum Price contracts. Canco’s projects range from 5,000-square-foot building additions to the 405,000-square-foot Heritage Park Fairgrounds project in Orlando, Florida, which included a 273-foot clear span building for the 8,000-seat Silver Spurs Rodeo Arena. Additional completed projects include 40 auto dealerships, 50 retail buildings, 20 professional buildings, 12 schools, numerous industrial and warehouse buildings and 35 churches. A religious buildings division of the company, Church Builders Southeast, was formed in 2009 with that group recently completing a 30,000-square-foot church in Hayesville, North Carolina, and currently building the 20,000-square-foot Heritage Baptist Church in Calhoun, Georgia. Canco has won 35 VP Hall of Fame awards and has been recognized as the largest VP builder in the company’s Southeast region in two of the past seven years. Company founder and president, John Prahl, was awarded the coveted Legends in Steel Award by VP in 2008.
