ROUNDO, a Hassleholm, Sweden-based manufacturer of plate and angle bending rolls, announced the completion and successful installation of the largest angle bending roll ever built, the Model R-16S. The first unit was purchased by a large rolling company in England that has been using the machine to roll massive sections for the stadiums and other venues for the 2012 Olympic Games in London. The Model R-16S has the capacity to roll up to 44-inch (1,118-mm) beams both the easy way (Y-Y axis) and the hard way (X-X axis). During the machine test and run-off performed for the customer at the ROUNDO complex in Sweden, the Model R-16S rolled an HEB 1000 beam, equivalent to a W 40-inch (1,016-mm) by 211-pound (95-kg) beam, to a radius under 100 feet (30 m) with virtually no distortion. In fact, the new owner of the machine told ROUNDO that there was no need to continue rolling the beam to a tighter radius, since no one would ask for such a large beam to be rolled any smaller, and the machine itself had actually exceeded the promised rolling capacity.
