Clare De Briere, executive vice president and regional manager in Los Angeles for Skanska USA Commercial Development, has been appointed Urban Land Institute’s (ULI) Americas Executive Committee Chair. She will serve on a voluntary basis for a two-year term starting July 1, 2022, and has also joined ULI’s Global Board of Directors.
De Briere brings extensive leadership experience to her new position, having served as a ULI Americas Executive Committee member, chair of ULI’s Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Committee, and chair of ULI’s Los Angeles District Council. She is also a global governing trustee and serves on the national Advisory Committee for Building Healthy Places and Building Healthy Corridors. Beyond ULI, De Briere sits on the UCLA Ziman Center Board, the UCLA Department of History Board of Advisors, the USC Lusk Center Board, and the Board of Central City Association.
“We are delighted to announce Clare’s appointment as the new ULI Americas chair,” said Gwyneth Jones Coté, president of ULI Americas. “She has long demonstrated a passion for equity and sustainability in development, which are pillars of ULI’s core values and etched into the fabric of her work at every turn. We look forward to seeing her work with diverse communities to fulfill ULI’s mission and create socially conscious, lasting change.”
“We are thrilled that Clare will be joining us as the Chair of ULI Americas,” said ULI Global Chair, Peter Ballon, Global Head of Real Estate, CPP Investments. “Clare has an impressive track record in her passion for – and commitment to – the Institute and our mission, including through the support of ULI Los Angeles and the national Advisory Committee for Building Healthy Places and Building Healthy Corridors. We are confident that ULI in the Americas will continue to flourish under Clare’s leadership, building upon the great work achieved through the strong leadership of our outgoing chair Jonathan Brinsden over the last two challenging years. We send our thanks to Jonathan for his invaluable contribution, including launching the DEI initiative forward, and we welcome Clare to her new role.”
“Since attending my first meeting over twenty-five years ago, my connection to ULI has only grown stronger,” said De Briere. “ULI’s commitment to equity, sustainability, and inclusion aligns with the goals I have pursued throughout my career, both as a developer and through my community engagement. As ULI Americas Executive Committee Chair, I hope to advance those values and positively shape the way developers and investors interact within the communities they serve.”
De Briere plans to view her position through the lens of mentorship. “One of the things I tell every recent college graduate is ‘find a mentor,’” she said. “ULI has fantastic mentorship programs, and having benefited from the counsel of engaged mentors throughout my career, I’ve been honored to serve as a mentor and sponsor for students and young professionals within ULI. Along with its research and advocacy, ULI provides unparalleled educational opportunities that I’m excited to be a part of.”
In addition to De Briere’s appointment as ULI Americas Chair, four new members of the ULI Americas Executive Committee will commence their terms on July 1, 2022, including LeRoy Moore, Senior Vice President/Chief Operating Officer, Tampa Housing Authority, Tampa, FL; Sara Neff, Head of Sustainability, LendLease Americas, Santa Monica, CA; Bryan Sanchez, Chief Executive Officer, Lionstone Investments, Houston, TX; and Emma West, Partner, Bousfields, Toronto, ON, Canada.
