The American Iron and Steel Institute (AISI) reported today that for the month of May 2013, U.S. steel mills shipped 8,047,245 net tons, a 0.9 percent increase from the 7,978,531 net tons shipped in the previous month, April 2013, and a 4.6 percent decrease from the 8,436,831 net tons shipped in May 2012. Shipments year-to-date in 2013 are 39,595,155 net tons, a 6.0 percent decrease vs. 2012 shipments of 42,100,270 net tons for five months.
A comparison of May shipments to the previous month of April shows the following changes: hot rolled sheet, up 5 percent, hot dipped galvanized sheets and strip, down 1 percent and cold rolled sheet, down 10 percent.
