Nucor Building Systems (NBS) and Trinity Valley Community College (TVCC) have partnered to receive a $65,000 grant from the Texas Workforce Commission that will allow them to provide additional training opportunities for students. The partnership will ultimately create new jobs in the area and make students more employable.
The Texas Workforce Commission (TWC) provides grants to organizations that are working to train students for specific jobs. For this grant, Nucor Building Systems will work closely with the college to train students in the metal building industry, teaching them specific skills necessary to succeed in the field.
“At Nucor Building Systems, we understand that these students are the future of our industry, and by investing in them early, we’re equipping them with the skills to thrive once they enter the workforce,” says Tom Batterbee, general manager for the Terrell office of Nucor Building Systems “We’re creating a pool of skilled job applicants that will benefit not only the metal building industry, but the state for years to come.”
In addition to training opportunities for students, Nucor Building Systems employees have been able to receive training on new technology such as Tekla 3D Modeling software, which allows the company to cut costs and be more competitive in the industry. The grant also gave Nucor Building Systems the opportunity to improve safety through OSHA training.
