Trico Lift, Manville, N.J., joined representatives of other aerial work platform companies, manufacturers and industry associations to create a new national aerial work platform training guide. The group was organized last year by the American Rental Association and the Association of Equipment Manufacturers to draft safe operator training guidelines and related industry standards. The guide will be introduced to the industry at ARA’s 2010 Rental Show to be held next month in Orlando, Florida. Trico Lift Vice President for Health, Safety and the Environment Steve Phillips will be one of the presenters. Phillips, who teamed-up with industry experts to draft the guide, will be on hand to provide details of the document. “In the new guidelines, we have compiled information which clarifies not only accountabilities for safe operation of aerial lifts,” Phillips explains, “but, also, details of proper training and the American National Standards Institute or ANSI and OSHA requirements which govern aerial work platform safety.”
Phillips, a credentialed trainer and former manager of health, safety and environmental programs for Halliburton/KBR, said, “We strive to exceed these standards by offering complete instruction as well as continual on-line training to our operating crew. Each year we conduct training for hundreds of operators outside our company. He added, “We’re proud to have participated in the drafting of these guidelines and to be an industry-training source.” Trico Lift has been recognized in the industry for its safe work performance having received annual awards from the American Subcontractors Association of New Jersey and the American Builders and Contractors Chesapeake Shores Chapter. Most recently, the National Petrochemical and Refiners presented a Contractor Merit Safety Award to the company. The employees of Trico Lift continue to receive industry recognition for performing 12 consecutive months during 2007 and 2008 without a lost time or recordable incident.
