Vulcan Steel is pleased to announce that Joel Voelkert has joined Vulcan Steel as vice president of sales and marketing. Volkert will have responsibility of all Vulcan’s sales and marketing activities.
In 1975, Volkert joined American Buildings Co. where he was responsible for sales in Florida and the Caribbean. He was later named director of marketing and moved to Eufaula, Alabama followed by being named American’s Roofing division general manager. American sent Joel to Emory University Business School and then named him general sales manager of the Building division followed by vice president of sales and marketing.
In 1996, he was named president of the Construction Products Group and in 1999 promoted to President of American Buildings Co. When American acquired Associated Building Systems later in 1999 he was named president of the group, which included American Buildings Co., Kirby, Gulf States and CBC.
Since 2003, Voelkert has worked in the metal building industry as a consultant and been the owner and CEO of a metal building design and erection company. Voelkert’s professional associations include chairman of the marketing communications committee as well as vice chairman and chairman of the Metal Building Manufacturers Association (MBMA). He was also vice chairman of The Metal Initiative and a board member of the Metal Construction Association.
Volkert graduated from Western Michigan University, served in the U.S. Army and was a member of the U.S. Olympic Team before beginning his career in the metal building and construction industry.
Voelkert’s distinguished career and experience in our industry will bring sales leadership and industry influence to Vulcan Steel.
